Meet2Eat Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Meet2Eat ("we", "our", "us") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting the personal information you share with us. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, disclose, and protect your information when you use our website, mobile application, and related services (collectively, the "Platform").

By registering for or using Meet2Eat, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy and consent to the practices described herein. If you do not agree, please do not use the Platform.

While Meet2Eat is operated under a personal ABN and may qualify for the small business exemption under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), we are committed to handling all personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) as a matter of best practice and to maintain the trust of our community.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Account Credentials

When you sign up or log in using Google Sign-In, we receive and store only your Gmail address. No other information from your Google account is accessed or retained by us. Google’s own privacy policy governs the authentication process.

2.2 Profile Information

To create a profile on Meet2Eat, users are asked to provide the following information. Fields marked as required are necessary to use the Platform; all other fields are entirely optional:

All profile fields allow free-text or selection-based input. We do not verify the accuracy of the information you provide.

2.3 User-Generated Content

We collect content you create on the Platform, including:

  • Meal listings and hosted event details
  • In-app messages sent between users
  • Reviews and ratings

2.4 Payment Information

Payment transactions are processed by Stripe, a third-party payment provider. We do not store your card details or full payment information on our servers. Stripe’s privacy policy governs the handling of your payment data.

2.5 Information Collected Automatically

When you use the Platform, we automatically collect:

  • Device and browser type
  • IP address (anonymised where possible)
  • Usage data including pages visited, features used, and session duration
  • Cookies and similar tracking technologies

We use Google Analytics to collect and analyse usage data. Information collected by Google Analytics (including anonymised IP addresses and behavioural data) may be processed and stored on Google’s servers, which may be located outside of Australia. 2.6 Support Correspondence

If you contact us for support, we may retain your correspondence and any information you provide to resolve your inquiry.

2A. Sensitive Information

Some optional profile information you may choose to provide — such as dietary preferences (e.g. halal, kosher, vegan) — may indirectly reveal religious beliefs, health conditions, or other sensitive attributes as defined under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). By voluntarily providing such information, you explicitly consent to its collection and use for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy.

You are never required to provide sensitive information, and all such fields are entirely optional. You may leave any field blank or update/remove it at any time through your profile settings.

Important: You control your sensitive information. Dietary preferences and similar fields are optional. Only share what you are comfortable making visible to other users of the Platform.

2B. Mandatory and Optional Information

The following profile fields are required to create and use a Meet2Eat account:

  • Full name (which may be an alias — your legal name is not required)
  • Age
  • Gender
  • Interests (selected from a provided list)

All other profile fields are entirely optional. You may choose how much or how little you share. The Platform’s core features are accessible with only the mandatory fields completed.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and manage your account
  • Enable profile discovery and meal matching between users
  • Facilitate in-app messaging and social features
  • Process payments and transactions via Stripe
  • Send transactional emails, including welcome emails and event reminders
  • Analyse usage and improve the Platform’s functionality and user experience (via Google Analytics)
  • Ensure safety, resolve disputes, and enforce our Terms & Conditions
  • Comply with applicable legal obligations

We do not send marketing emails. All emails from Meet2Eat are transactional in nature (e.g. welcome emails, event reminders).

4. Disclosure & Sharing

We may share your information in the following circumstances:

Legal AuthoritiesWe may disclose information when required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Meet2Eat, our users, or the public.
Business TransfersIn the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties for commercial purposes.

5. Data Storage & Security

Your personal information is stored on secure servers located in Australia. We implement industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and access controls to protect your data from unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction.

While we take all reasonable steps to protect your information, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure. You use the Platform at your own risk in this regard.

Please note: Messages sent between users via the in-app messaging feature are not end-to-end encrypted. While messages are stored securely on our servers, the content of conversations is not encrypted at rest. We recommend you do not share sensitive personal, financial, or confidential information through the in-app messaging feature.

In the event of a data breach that is likely to result in serious harm to any affected individual, we will notify affected users and, where required, report the breach to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) in accordance with the Notifiable Data Breaches (NDB) scheme under Part IIIC of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

6. International Data Transfers

Our Platform is hosted in Australia. However, some of our third-party service providers — including Google (for Sign-In and Analytics) and Stripe (for payments) — may store or process your data on servers located outside of Australia. We take reasonable steps to ensure that any overseas recipients of your personal information handle it in a manner consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles. By using the Platform, you consent to your information being processed in accordance with this section.

7. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as otherwise needed to provide our services, resolve disputes, and comply with our legal obligations.

You may request deletion of your account and associated personal data at any time by contacting us at https://meet2eat.com.au/support. Upon a verified deletion request, we will remove your personal information within a reasonable timeframe, except where retention is required by law.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights in relation to your personal information:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
  • Correction — request that inaccurate or outdated information be corrected
  • Deletion — request that your personal data be deleted
  • Withdrawal of consent — withdraw consent for the processing of your data (where consent is the basis for processing)
  • Complaint — lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC)

9. Cookies & Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies (including those set by Google Analytics) to enhance your experience, analyse usage patterns, and improve Platform performance. You can manage or disable cookies through your browser settings at any time. Please note that disabling certain cookies may affect the functionality of the Platform.

10. Collection Notice

In accordance with APP 5, we provide a collection notice at the point of account registration informing users of:

  • The types of information being collected
  • The purposes for which it is collected
  • How it may be disclosed
  • Their ability to access and correct their information

This Privacy Policy forms the basis of that collection notice and is made available to all users prior to and during the registration process.

11. Third-Party Links & Services

The Platform may contain links to third-party websites or integrate with third-party services (such as Google and Stripe). We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those third parties. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you use in connection with the Platform.

12. Children’s Privacy

Meet2Eat is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If we become aware that a minor has provided personal information without appropriate consent, we will take steps to delete that information promptly. 13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to our practices, technology, legal requirements, or for other operational reasons. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy and, where appropriate, notify you via email or a prominent notice on the Platform. Your continued use of the Platform after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
